CREATIVE MINDS SERIES - - Bring authors and illustrators into your classroom!

During the 2005-2006 school year, MAGPI will offer several *free* author interactive videoconference events for our members. Fall events include interactive discussions with children's book author/illustrators, young adult fiction writers and journalists. Space is limited for each of these events and will be available on a "first-come, first serve" basis. (all times are EST)

 

COSI's Expert Program

The following conferences are part of COSI's Expert program. These sessions connect experts in various fields with middle and high school students for a 15-20 minute presentation followed by a learner-led question and answer session. Also listed are Elementary Experts, 45-minute to hour-long programs including hands-on activities. All sessions range from $75.00-$130.00 unless otherwise noted.

Welcome to CURRENTS, an international education program from Global Nomads Group and Semester at Sea uniting American youth with their peers around the world via videoconferencing and the internet, to discuss the most pressing global issues of our time and work together to help solve them. VOS: Videoconference Organization Seminars

VOS provides since 2002 virtual field trips, Spanish language practice sessions for students via videoconferences and Spanish on-line courses. Also US & Spain teachers VC program

Virtual School @ Vanderbilt University

The Vanderbilt Virtual School partners with schools and community groups to make the most powerful use of technology for their organizations. The Virtual School specializes in the production of Interactive Videoconferences targeted to K12 students with Vanderbilt faculty and staff as presenters.

Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach

The Center for Science Outreach was established in 2002 in order to promote and develop a strong relationship between the scientific and educational communities.

Atlanta History Center

The Atlanta History Center can bring living history to your classroom via video conference. Programs feature a short living history dramatization, artifact and primary resource investigation, period music, art making or games. Each correlates with state social studies standards. ($150.00/session)

Center for InteractiveLearning & Collaboration (CILC)

CILC is a content destination renowned for its exciting programs that range from the arts to science to history. Hundreds of single events, series, and classes are offered through partnerships with nearly 50 program providers. Many programs have costs associated but the search capabilities allow you to easily find free or low cost programs.

Distance Education Clearinghouse-

The Distance Education Clearinghouse is a comprehensive and widely recognized Web site bringing together distance education information from Wisconsin, national, and international sources.

The Museum of Television & Radio

The Museum of Television & Radio announces its class offerings for school year 2005 - 2006. We invite educators to browse our classes and materials online, and to contact us with any questions or to schedule classes. ( @ 125.00 for 60 min. program)

ASK ("Authors Specialist and Knowledge")

Is an organized process that provides students with the opportunity to interview an author or a subject specialist in the topic they are reading about in a novel. The program uses excellent literature, journal writing and interviewing to promote reading for understanding. See www.projectask.org for more information on this process.

Cleveland Museum of Art

Distance Learning at The Cleveland Museum of Art allows classes to connect with the CMA and enrich their studies of history, language arts, science, math and the visual arts through our collection of art and artifacts from around the world. Through live, interactive videoconferencing, students participate in conversations with museum educators that are two-way and fully interactive. Programs are designed for grades K-12 and are aligned with ODE academic standards. Learning packets with extension activities are supplied with most lessons.

Virtual Outreach Program (@ 50.00 each)

The Virtual Outreach Program at the Michigan State University Museum offers exciting virtual field trips for your students. These programs allow teachers to provide fun and meaningful learning experiences without the expense, permission forms, and geographic limitations of ordinary field trips.

Using videoconferencing technology, museum experts and objects come to you in the classroom or conference room. Students, teachers, and museum staff can all see and hear each other via the video and voice connections. Everything happens in real time, so it's almost like being there!

MSU Museum's field trips are conducted by professionals recognized in their disciplines and experienced in presenting content to students with a range of educational needs. Most programs last 45-60 minutes followed by time for questions.

We provide field trips in the science and social studies curriculum areas.

Fairfax Network (satellite programs but excellent)

The Fairfax Network is an award-winning producer of distance learning programming that originates in Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia. For more than 10 years, over 13,000 schools and 40 cable stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico have received our enrichment programs. (This programming is distributed via C-band satellite. To receive the programs, you need access to a satellite dish and a receiver, a monitor, a VCR (if you want to tape and view programs later), and a telephone (to call in via an 800 number during live programs).

 

Manhattan School of Music's Distance Learning Dept.

The distance learning program at Manhattan School of Music is proud to present Music Bridges, a selection of music programs that feature distinguished artist-faculty from the School via interactive videoconferencing technology. Available to elementary, middle, and high schools, these interactive videoconference programs are designed to engage your students in areas ranging from musical performance to developing an understanding of the building blocks of music to grasping the nuances of musical styles and genres through performances, demonstrations, and instruction.

Programs are designed to be interdisciplinary, creating links between music and core subjects such as social studies and history.
